A Biography of Miss Harris

I have been teaching in the Edwardsville School District for the past 24 years. My teaching career began at Columbus Elementary School in the fall of 1995 at the 6th grade level when it was still an elementary school concept. As the district moved to the middle school concept, I moved to 8th grade. Throughout the past 22 years I have taught science, math, language arts, and reading at the middle school level.  This year I will be teaching 5 sections of 8th grade science  at Liberty.

After graduating from Edwardsville High School in 1989, I attended the University of Illinois for three years studying Trumpet Performance.  During those three years I was involved in many of the music groups, including Symphonic Band I and Marching Illini. I then changed schools and my major to education and received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from  SIUE.  I later went on to receive my Masters degree in Instructional Technology from SIUE.  Since then I have taken post graduate courses to further my education.

In my spare time I enjoy landscaping (I own my own business - CURB APPEAL), singing, cycling, working out, and hanging out with my two Siberian Huskies, Maverick and Goose.  Hopefully you will get to meet them face to face when we culminate an Iditarod Research Unit this coming March.  A few years ago I got to fulfill one of my dreams of visiting Alaska.  While there I flew up on a glacier and mushed with Iditarod sled dogs, met Iditarod champions, as well as visited several Iditarod racers kennels.
